Cowboy Trail
No, you don't need a horse or even boots to enjoy the Cowboy Trail. A bicycle or a pair of walking shoes is all you need to experience the scenic beauty of northern Nebraska. The Cowboy Trail is a hiker/biker path stretching 321 miles from Chadron to Norfolk. Formerly the Chicago & Northwestern railroad line, this path is maintained by the Nebraska Game & Parks.
One of the most scenic spots on the trail can be found just two miles east of Valentine at the old railroad trestle bridge. Standing 150 feet above the Niobrara River, trail-goers on the bridge are treated to breath-taking views of the river valley nestled in the midst of the beautiful Sandhills. Rent a bike in Valentine, or put on those walking shoes to enjoy the natural beauty of the heart of the Sandhills.
